This program was carried out to enhance students' speaking skills. However, the program seemed to face obstacles when dealing with students’ spelling skills (imla'). Most students can speak good Arabic but struggle to write basic Arabic words according to its rules. Early studies suggested that the Center has yet to have well-established teaching material for Imla’. Hence, this article aimed to design and find its effectiveness in improving students' spelling skills. Research & Development (R&D) methodology and used five instruments were used to collect data such as observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and documents. In analyzing data, Paired Sample t-Test is used. The procedures started with the literature review, planning, designing, validating, and experiment. The results of this research were the teaching materials in the form of a textbook. This study also suggested that the textbook validity is in good grade with a percentage score of 84.65%, meaning that the designed materials can be used with some modification and correction. As for its effectiveness, the Sig. (2-tailed) result is (0,000) < (less than) (0,005). It means that the textbook effectively improves students' spelling skills. In conclusion, the current study underscores a collective push towards innovative teaching materials in enhancing language education.
2023-10-25T14:19:18+07:00Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Al Bayan: Jurnal Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Arabhttp://ejournal.radenintan.ac.id/index.php/albayan/article/view/13839Prophet Yusuf's Character in the Quran: A Perspective from Maslow's Humanistic Psychology in Arabic Linguistics2023-12-29T21:52:38+07:00Hanik Mahliatussikahhanik.mahliatussikah.fs@um.ac.idHimatul Istiqomahhimastiq@gmail.comMohammad Jawad Habeeb al-BadraniMohammadjawad@basrah.ac.id
The Story of Prophet Yusuf in the Quran is the only story that is presented in a single surah with a complete narrative. One of the pressing issues is how the use of the Arabic language in historical texts influences the understanding of Islamic historiography. This research aims to detail and analyze the characteristics of Islamic historiography during the medieval period, especially in the context of the Mamluk Dynasty, with a focus on the role of the Arabic language. The research methodology involves a literature review, examining various previous studies on Islamic historiography. The results of data analysis reveal characteristics of encyclopedic scholarship, the pivotal role of the Arabic language as the primary means of communication in constructing historical narratives, and the presence of creativity and originality in historical writings. Thus, this research makes a significant contribution to the development of theoretical frameworks for understanding the history of medieval Islam during the Mamluk period. This study is essential for delving into Islamic historiography of the past, especially in the context of the use of the Arabic language, to gain a deeper understanding of how Islamic history was recorded and conveyed during the Mamluk Dynasty. With this understanding, we can grasp the political, cultural, and social nuances that shaped the Islamic historical narrative during this period, while highlighting the crucial role of the Arabic language in this process.
2023-10-25T14:19:22+07:00Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Al Bayan: Jurnal Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Arabhttp://ejournal.radenintan.ac.id/index.php/albayan/article/view/16372Semiotic Analysis of 'Kun Fa Yakoon' Song Using Riffaterre’s Theory2023-12-29T21:52:38+07:00Merry Choironimerychoironi_uin@radenfatah.ac.idLalu Turjiman Ahmadlalu@gmail.comAhmad Autiyah Saberahmad@gmail.comThis article tried to find out the hidden meaning in the song Kun Fa Yakoon, written by Mohammad bin Dhahi, one of the most popular songs in the Muslim world during the pandemic Covid-19, not only due to the imitation of one of the current most popular Western songs, Memories by Maroon, but the acapella is also interesting due to the overwhelming symbols within the lyrics. Thus, new meanings need to produce to comprehend the song and its cultural context. This article aimed to deepen the comprehension of the song's message to result in an increased appreciation for art and a better understanding of the circumstances during the difficult times of the pandemic. The type of research conducted is qualitative research. In analysis, researchers used Riffaterre's Semiotics theory by identifying the Semiotic elements of the song, such as the use of metaphors and repetitions, then conducting heuristic reading and interpretation, and producing meaning through hermeneutic reading. The research findings indicate the discovery of meaning shifts in the form of metaphors and the creation of meaning through repetitions. In the heuristic analysis, ungrammatical elements like "من" (who) interrogative in conjunction with "إلاّ" (except) yield a new meaning that signifies a firm statement: "I bear witness." The global situation currently being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic also generates the meaning of earnestness in prayer and the high demand placed upon it. This represents the songwriter's response to the anxiety prevailing in society and signifies an increase in faith.2023-11-05T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Al Bayan: Jurnal Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Arabhttp://ejournal.radenintan.ac.id/index.php/albayan/article/view/14315Contrastive Analysis of Concord in Arabic, English, and Indonesian2023-12-29T21:52:38+07:00Supardi Supardisupardi@uinsalatiga.ac.idAbdel Karim Muhammad Hassan JabalKariimgabal@hotmail.comRecognizing the differences in concord among languages will be very important to avoid mistakes in using these languages because concord errors are the most common errors in language use. This article was a contrastive study of concord in Arabic, English, and Indonesian, and the implication of teaching the languages. Through contrastive analysis, the grammatical concord system of the languages was compared to determine the similarities, differences, and teaching implications. Library research was used through a qualitative method. The data was taken mainly from Arabic, English, and Indonesian grammar books. The results showed that the concord in Arabic and English was grammatical, while in Indonesian, it was notional. The element of concord in Arabic was more complex, comprising phrases and clauses, and consisting of five features: person, number, gender, definiteness, and case markers. Meanwhile, the English concord occured on the clause domain of person and number, differing from that of Indonesian which was based on meaning. This study provided an incentive to foreign language tutors, especially, Arabic and English tutors, to develop strategies in helping students master concord and avoid grammatical errors.2023-11-05T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Al Bayan: Jurnal Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Arabhttp://ejournal.radenintan.ac.id/index.php/albayan/article/view/17453The Correlation between Arabic Learning Motivation and Arabic Language Competence of Education Study Program Students in Post- COVID-19 Pandemic2023-12-29T21:52:38+07:00Nurul Hidayahnurulhidayah@radenfatah.ac.idMukmin Mukminmukmin_uin@rdenfatah.ac.idSiti Marfuahsiti@ucmmk.comThe COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on learning, especially student learning motivation, which also has an impact on the Arabic language competence of high school students when they turn into university students. Students are not only required to be able to learn independently but also have to answer the challenges of the 21st century, especially to communicate using Arabic. The purpose of this article is to explore university students' motivation in learning Arabic after online learning and its correlation with their Arabic language competence. A quantitative approach was used with a bivariate correlation research method. The population of this study was students at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang with a sample of 1213 people with diverse scientific specifications. The research analysis was conducted with prerequisite test followed by correlation test and univariate test. The results showed that the motivation to learn Arabic language of students of Arabic language education study program has a positive and significant correlation with the level of Arabic language competence despite having gone through online learning for several years when students are in secondary education. Therefore, it is important for Arabic teachers to continue to innovate in learning by using digital learning media to increase motivation in Arabic. Learning should also be based on digital literacy, so that students can become agents of change by breaking the shackles of the lack of infrastructure in schools and replacing them with media that are ready to access and fill content related to Arabic language learning.2023-11-08T10:33:32+07:00Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Al Bayan: Jurnal Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Arabhttp://ejournal.radenintan.ac.id/index.php/albayan/article/view/16299Ihya al-Lughah as Arabic Language Learning Model to Improve Arabic Speaking Skills2023-12-31T08:01:24+07:00Nanang Kosimnanangkosim@uinsgd.ac.idNovy Maryaninovymaryani@uinsgd.ac.id
Arabic language learning in Sukahideng Islamic boarding school experiences several obstacles, such as students feeling bored and tired to learn to speak Arabic because teachers tend to dominate learning activities in the classroom compared to students. Phoneme pronunciation is the most important principle in Arabic. Without the correct phoneme pronunciation, a language cannot be understood. The problem of phoneme pronunciation was investigated and a solution was found based on factor analysis. Qualitative descriptive research design was used with a case study approach. Data collection methods include interviews with lecturers and students, direct observation of in-class learning and documentation of the results of lecturer notes. The data analysis model adhered the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. Validity was ensured through passion, observation, triangulation, and expert views. The finding of the research showed problems with Arabic phonemes, which were categorized as Akhtha’ al-Harakat, Akhtha’ al-Ibdal, Akhtha’ al-Hadzf, and Akhtha’ al-Tahrif. Factors include language problems (characteristics of the first and second languages) and non-language problems (student characteristics, lecturer competence, learning strategies, lesson materials, and learning facilities). The proposed solutions included error and comparative analysis for language problems, motivation, diagnosis, cooperative learning, detailed examples, pronunciation exercises, and adequate facilities for non-language problems. This research provided a comprehensive study of the challenges of pronouncing Arabic phonemes at INSTIKA Madura. Certain types of errors and the underlying factors that affect pronunciation were identified. Practical solutions were proposed, addressing both language and non-language aspects to improve students' pronunciation skills. These findings offered valuable insights for educators, curriculum developers and language instructors, facilitating targeted interventions and effective teaching strategies to students struggling with Arabic phonetics.2023-11-16T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Al Bayan: Jurnal Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Arabhttp://ejournal.radenintan.ac.id/index.php/albayan/article/view/15524The Media Thematic Dictionary and Its Application in Improving Speaking Skills l Wasa’il al-Qamus al-Maudhu‘i wa Tathbiqu fi Tarqiyati Maharah al-Kalam2023-12-29T21:52:38+07:00Muhammad Syaifullahmuhammadsyaifullah121285@gmail.comSiti Mubarokahmubarokah20@gmail.comNailul Izzahnailul@gmail.comWakhidati Nurrohmah Putriwakhidputri@gmail.comKholida Nurcholida72@gmail.comSyuhadak Syuhadaksyuhadak@pba.uin-malang.ac.id
The Islamic Boarding School of Nahdlotul Ulum Metro faces challenges in teaching Arabic to elementary school students, resulting in limited vocabulary and boredom. Regrettably, this invaluable asset, particularly in the form of "translation products," was overlooked and underappreciated. Despite Indonesia boasting a substantial collection of Arabic religious texts translated into Javanese, utilizing the pegon script, these Arabic-Javanese texts demanded preservation, scholarly exploration, and development grounded in specific theoretical frameworks. This research undertook a comparative analysis of "cultural terms" within religious texts, focusing on al-Hikam aphorisms translated from Arabic (L1) into both Indonesian and Javanese (L2). The primary objective was to dissect and analyze the local wisdom and Islamic Sufism moral values embedded in al-Hikam aphorisms through translation. The study drew on translations of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences from carefully selected sources related to cultural terms, including books and various Arabic-Javanese translation dictionaries. Employing a purposive sampling method, data collection followed a meticulous process. Qualitative data analysis unfolded through four pivotal stages: (1) domain analysis, (2) taxonomy analysis, (3) componential analysis, and (4) cultural theme analysis. The findings, gleaned from lexicography study and semantic analysis of translation, revealed the existence of two translation ideologies shaping cultural terms in Arabic-Javanese religious texts: domestication ideology and foreignization ideology. This research underscored that translation products were inseparable from the ideological dimensions of foreignization and domestication. Foreignization endeavored to assimilate source language elements into the target language, while domestication integrated original components with local elements. This research contributed to a deeper understanding of how foreignization and domestication shaped the depiction of local wisdom in Arabic-Javanese religious texts.
2023-12-17T16:28:48+07:00Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Al Bayan: Jurnal Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Arabhttp://ejournal.radenintan.ac.id/index.php/albayan/article/view/16713The Imperative for Arabic Language Proficiency among Foreign Workers in Gulf Countries and Strategies for Enhancement l Ahammiyyatu Itqan al-Lughah al-‘Arabiyyah baina al-‘Ummal al-Ajnabi fi Duwali al-Khalij wa Istiratijiyyatu Ta’ziziha2023-12-29T21:52:38+07:00Mohammed El-Gammalmalgammal@hbku.edu.qaNajeem Adewale Sharafsharofuadewale@yahoo.comRiski Gunawangunawanriski@radenintan.ac.idMuhammad Subkhi Hidayatullahmuhammadsubkhi02@gmail.comIn both Eastern and Western societies, proficiency in the local language and an understanding of cultural nuances were traditionally considered essential prerequisites for employment. However, a marked deviation from this norm was evident in the Gulf states, where communication with foreign workers became sporadic and, in many cases, was limited to specific roles or enforced through punitive measures. This linguistic neglect perpetuated the erosion of Arab heritage, contributing to the gradual loss of identity. This research aimed to thoroughly analyze the importance of foreign workers in the Gulf countries mastering Arabic. It investigated the impact of neglecting this linguistic aspect and proposed viable solutions to encourage learning, thus contributing to the preservation and enhancement of cultural values, identity, and society in the Gulf region. Using a literature study methodology, the research drew on a variety of sources, including previous research, newspapers, expert studies, and reports. The findings of this research underscored the need for collaborative efforts among countries in the region, drawing inspiration from experiences in the East and West. An important solution identified was activating the principle of shared responsibility, which included the establishment of training centers for expatriates to acquire essential Arabic vocabulary. The implications of this research extended to the establishment of stronger communication links within the country, the creation of international bridges, and the opening of employment opportunities for Arabic language and literature experts.2023-12-17T17:49:48+07:00Copyright (c) 2023 Jurnal Al Bayan: Jurnal Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Arabhttp://ejournal.radenintan.ac.id/index.php/albayan/article/view/19440Collaborative-Based Tashrif Lughowy in Qiroatul Kutub Learning Using the Reverso2024-01-01T07:57:31+07:00Khoiru Nidakkhoirunnidak@iainkediri.ac.idAhmad Zubaidiahmad.zubaidi@uii.ac.idUril Bahruddinurilbahruddin@pba.uin-malang.ac.idThe large number of grammatical explanations in learning Qiroatul Kutub made students increasingly slow in understanding Arabic texts, especially in Tashrif Lughowy, which demanded many changes.
