Author Guidelines

Papers submitted for publication must adhere to the following guidelines:

Papers should be presented on the themes of Islamic Political Science (Islamic political system, comparison of Islamic political thought with contemporary political science, local government, analysis of Indonesian politics), either in Indonesian, English, or Arabic;

  •  Papers must be typed with 1.5 spacing on A4 paper size;
  • Papers should be approximately 6,000-10,000 words in length including text, all tables and figures, notes, references, and appendices intended for publication.
  • All submissions should include an abstract of 150-200 words and 5 keywords.
  • Full names of authors should be mentioned, along with their institution and full address;
  • All submissions should be in Doc or RTF file format;
  • Arabic words should be transliterated according to the Library of Congress style;
  • Bibliographic references should be noted in footnotes and bibliography according to the 16th edition of the Chichago Manual of Style.
  • When a source is cited for the first time, full information is given: full name of the author, title of the source in italics, place of publication, publishing company, date of publication, and pages cited. For subsequent citations of the same source, include the author's surname, two or three words from the title, and the specific page number. The word ibid. may be used, but op.cit. and loc.cit. should not be used.

Please consider the following criteria:

  • The title of articles submitted to Tapis Journal should reflect a specific focus of study, based on research, either library research or field research, so that the author can have a general statement and a subtitle that specifically limits the scope of the study.
  • Submitted articles should be based on research, whether library research, fieldwork or other types of research.
  • The article should present a bibliography that includes primary sources - books, manuscripts, interviews, or observations - and recent secondary sources from peer-reviewed books or journals.
  • The article should contain arguments/theses/findings that contribute to the scholarly discussion in the field of study that should be clearly stated and systematically presented in the abstract, content, and conclusion.
  • Articles must be in good, or at least comprehensible, English; Authors are solely responsible for correcting and editing English; the editors of Tapis Journal are only responsible for minor typographical errors and understandable grammatical mistakes.
  • Style and format, including article structure, footnotes, bibliography, should follow the style and format of Tapis Journal.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The manuscript has not been previously published, and has not been published in another journal for consideration (or explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

  • Submission file in Open Office, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.

  • Where available, URLs for references have been provided.

  • The text is single-spaced; uses 12-point font; uses italics instead of underlining (except for URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate point, not at the end.

  • The text adheres to the style and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, found in About the Journal.

  • If submitting to the peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring Blind Review have been followed.
